The first issue of the MDD newsletter The Gangue  was published in 1979 and more than 100 issues are now available from the archive. The newsletter comes with a featured article and news from the world of economic geology.

Field trips provide a unique oppertunity to experience new and exciting geology presented by geologists knowledgable about the area visted. The MDD are both organizing field trips and sponsoring student field trips.

The MDD is involved with sponsoring and organizing short courses on various topics within the general field of economic geology. 

The MDD has in collaboration with the Volcanology and Igneous Petrology (VIP) Division (GAC) started to run a number of webinars to help disperse geological knowledge during the COVID pandemic that has largely prevented geoscientists to gather in real life.
